General
What is Astride?
Astride is a marketplace designed to connect horse buyers and sellers. Its matching system recommends horses based on your preferences, helping you discover horses that may suit your requirements.
Who can use Astride?
Anyone involved in buying or selling horses, including private owners, breeders, professional dealers, riders, trainers and agents.
Is Astride free?
Creating an account and browsing horses is free. Buyers need a subscription to access the buyer features included in their selected plan. Sellers can upload and publish horse listings for free. During the beta, every plan is free — the prices in the app show what it will cost later.
What is the difference between Explore, Connect and Pro?
Explore is free: a personalised feed, basic search preferences, a match score with a short explanation, saved horses and horses up to €100,000. Connect adds any budget, the full match explanation, seller profiles and the possibility to get in touch and chat with sellers. Pro is Connect for people who search for several riders — up to five people with their own preferences, feed and saved horses.
What makes Astride different from other horse marketplaces?
Astride combines horse listings, personalised matching and tools that help buyers and sellers connect. Features such as the match score and Circle help users discover suitable horses and connect with relevant buyers or sellers.
Can I use Astride in any country?
Astride is designed to connect buyers and sellers internationally. Availability and the practical requirements of each transaction depend on the countries involved.
Is Astride available on mobile devices?
Astride is available on supported iOS and Android devices.
Which languages does Astride support?
English, German, French and Spanish. Astride follows your phone's language; you can choose a different one under Account settings › Language.
Who is behind Astride?
Astride GmbH (in formation), Im Rüeblig 2, 8117 Fällanden, Switzerland. You can reach us at support@astride.ch or through "Contact Astride" in the app.
Account
How do I create an account?
Tap Sign Up, enter your details, verify your email address and complete your profile. You can also continue with Google or Apple.
Can I use Astride as both a buyer and a seller?
Yes. One account allows you to browse horses, save favourites, communicate with users and create horse listings, subject to the applicable subscription requirements. You switch between the buying and the selling view on your profile page.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Tap Forgot Password on the login screen and follow the instructions sent to your email.
Can I change my email address?
Not from within the app. Write to support@astride.ch and we change it for you.
Can I change my account from buyer to seller?
Yes. You can use the same account for buying and selling horses.
What happens if I delete my account?
Your account and profile are deleted permanently and immediately — horses, chats and photos included. This can't be undone.
Can I delete my messages or conversation history?
You can edit or delete your own messages by pressing and holding them. A deleted message disappears for the other person too. Whole conversations cannot be deleted, but you can hide a chat.
Buying horses
How does horse matching work?
Astride compares your preferences with the information provided in horse listings and recommends horses that may suit your requirements. Horses that don't match your discipline or exceed your budget never appear in your feed.
Why isn't every horse a 100% match?
The match score reflects how closely a horse meets your selected preferences. A lower score does not necessarily mean the horse is unsuitable, it simply doesn't match all your preferences.
Does a high match score guarantee that a horse is right for me?
No. The score helps you identify potentially suitable horses. It does not guarantee the horse's suitability.
Can I see why a horse matches?
Tap the match score on a horse. Explore shows how many of your criteria match; with Connect you see exactly which ones fit, which are close and where the horse doesn't fit.
Can I search without matching?
Your feed is built from your preferences, so there is no separate filter search. The map shows horses and Dealing Stables near you regardless of the score.
Why don't I see horses above €100,000?
Explore shows horses up to €100,000. With Connect you set any budget and see every horse that fits.
Can I save horses for later?
Yes. Tap the heart icon to save horses to My Likes.
How do I contact a seller?
Open a horse listing and tap Contact to write your first message, subject to the features included in your subscription. Your first message is your request: the seller sees it and decides whether to start chatting.
Can I contact a seller before deciding to buy?
Yes. You can ask questions, request additional information and discuss the horse before making a decision.
Can I request additional photos, videos or documents?
Yes. You can request additional media or relevant documentation directly from the seller.
Can I see X-rays and vet reports?
Sellers can add X-rays and vet reports to a horse. They are only visible once the seller has said yes to your request.
Can I arrange a viewing or trial?
Yes. You can arrange a viewing or trial directly with the seller.
Can I arrange a veterinary examination?
Yes. You can arrange an independent veterinary examination with the seller before purchasing.
Can I negotiate the price of a horse?
Yes. Price negotiations take place directly between the buyer and seller.
Why is there no price on some horses?
Sellers decide who sees the price: straight away, only once you're in touch, or on request.
How do I know if a horse is suitable for me?
Review the horse's profile, description, videos and available records. Ask the seller questions, arrange a viewing or trial and seek independent veterinary advice before purchasing.
What does "Hide" do?
A hidden horse is not shown to you again. If you were already in touch with the seller about it, the connection ends. You can tell us why you hid it — your feed learns from it.
Can I search for someone else?
Yes. Under Profile › Search preferences you can add people you search for — a child, a client, a rider you work with. Each person has their own preferences, feed and saved horses. Searching for more than one person is part of Pro.
What happens after I purchase a horse?
The buyer and seller arrange payment, ownership transfer and transport directly. Astride does not currently manage the transaction or guarantee its completion.
Can I buy a horse from another country?
Yes. You can connect with international sellers. You should confirm the applicable transport, veterinary, import and export requirements before completing a purchase.
Selling horses
How do I list a horse?
Go to My Stable › Add a horse, upload one mandatory video, enter the horse's details and publish your listing.
Does it cost anything to list a horse?
No. Sellers can upload and publish horse listings for free.
What information should I include in a listing?
Include at least one video, high-quality photos, age, height, discipline, competition level, bloodlines, character, price (with your choice of who sees it), location and a clear description. Complete listings help buyers assess whether a horse meets their requirements.
Why is a video required?
Buyers only see horses with a video. One video is all your horse needs to go live; photos are optional. Film in at least 720p, smaller videos look blurry in the feed. The cover photo will automatically be generated from it.
My video didn't upload. What now?
Uploads continue in the background; you can leave the screen. If the upload fails, open My Stable and try again from the horse. A horse without a video is paused until a video is added.
Can I edit my listing?
Yes. You can update photos, videos, price and horse information at any time.
Can I remove my listing?
Yes. You can take a horse off Astride for now, mark it as sold or delete your listing whenever you choose.
How many horses can I list?
As many as you like — horses, videos and photos are unlimited.
Can I list a horse on behalf of a client?
Yes, provided you have the owner's permission to advertise the horse and communicate with potential buyers. We do not take responsibility or liability for actions taken without client consultation.
Can I list a horse that is advertised on another platform?
Yes. You can advertise a horse on multiple platforms, provided your information remains accurate and up to date.
Can I list a horse without displaying its price?
You can decide when buyers see the price: straight away, only once you're in touch, or on request.
What should I do when my horse is sold?
Mark the horse as sold as soon as it is no longer available.
Why does Astride ask me whether my horse is still for sale?
Every 30 days we ask you to confirm that a horse is still available, so buyers only see horses they can actually buy. If you don't answer, we remind you after 45 days and pause the listing after 60 days. You can put it back on Astride any time.
Can I show my horses on my public profile?
Yes. Every horse has a switch "Show this horse on my public profile". Off, the horse still appears in buyers' feeds, just not in the list on your profile.
What happens if my listing contains incorrect information?
You are responsible for ensuring that the information is accurate and current. Update incorrect details promptly.
Can Astride remove my listing?
Yes. Astride may remove or restrict listings that violate its terms, contain misleading information or raise legitimate safety or fraud concerns.
My likes and requests
What happens when I save a horse?
Nothing, for the seller — saving is private. It keeps the horse in My likes so you can come back to it.
What happens when I contact a seller?
Your first message is your request. The seller sees it and decides whether to start chatting. Once they say yes, you can continue the conversation through the app.
What does "Waiting for a reply" mean?
It means the seller has received your message but has not yet replied.
Can sellers see who contacted them about their horse?
Yes. Sellers can review interested buyers and decide whom they would like to chat with.
Can I remove a horse from My Likes?
Yes. Tap the bin icon on the horse in My likes. You can save it again from the feed.
Why haven't I received a response from a seller?
The seller may not have reviewed your message or may not be available to respond. You can review other suitable horses while waiting.
Can I change my preferences after saving horses?
Yes. Updating your preferences may change your recommendations and match scores.
Astride Match and Circle
What is Astride Match?
Astride Match helps buyers discover horses based on their preferences and the information available in horse listings.
How is Astride Match different from a regular search?
Regular search allows you to browse listings using filters. Match helps you discover horses that align with your selected preferences.
Can I change my matching preferences?
Yes. You can update your preferences whenever your requirements change.
What is Circle?
Circle is a feature designed to connect buyers with sellers who may have horses that match their requirements without having to list the horses on the app.
How does Circle work?
Buyers share their horse-search requirements, allowing relevant sellers to identify potential matches and approach them with suitable horses.
How do I join the circle as a buyer?
Tap "Join the circle" on your profile or in the feed. You set what you share with the circle — or use your existing preferences — then you see your request exactly as sellers will see it, with your name, before you post it. Sellers who have a horse for you get in touch; you say yes to every contact.
Who can see my Circle request?
Only sellers who are members of the circle. They see your requirements and your name, never your contact details.
Can I stop sharing my request?
Yes. On your profile, switch off "Share what I'm looking for with the circle". You stay a member; your request is simply no longer shown.
Do I have to accept offers received through Circle?
No. You decide which offers interest you and whether you want to continue a conversation.
Is Circle different from liking a horse?
Yes. Saving a horse expresses interest in a specific listing. Circle helps connect buyers and sellers based on the buyer's requirements, directly without browsing through other horses.
Does Circle guarantee that I will find a suitable horse?
No. Circle can help you discover relevant opportunities, connect you with the right people, but availability and suitability depend on the horses offered and the information provided.
How do I join the circle as a seller?
Circle access is a subscription for sellers (30 days or 3 months, renews automatically). You see every active buyer request with the buyer's name, budget and criteria, and you can offer one of your horses or write without a listing. Buyers decide whether to start chatting.
What does the circle cost?
Buyers pay per request, for 30 days, depending on the budget of the request. Sellers pay a subscription for circle access.
My Stable
What is My Stable?
My Stable is the page where you manage your horses, listings and completed sales.
Can people view my stable?
Yes. Other users can visit your public profile to browse your available horses and learn more about you, according to your profile's visibility settings.
Can I search for other stables?
Yes. Use the map on the app to find dealers, breeders, private sellers and other users across the world.
What is a Dealing Stable?
A Dealing Stable is a professional stable that sells horses. Sellers can link their account to one when they sign up or from their profile. The owner or an employee is verified by Astride, and the stable then shows a "Verified Dealing Stable" badge, its address on the map and its contact details on the seller's profile. If your stable is missing, ask us to add it.
Can I update my stable profile?
Yes. You can update your profile information and other available details through your account settings.
Can I display horses that are no longer available?
Horses you mark as sold are no longer shown to buyers, but they stay in My Stable and count towards the "Sold" number on your profile.
Preferences
Can I change my preferences later?
Yes. You can update your preferences at any time.
Can I select multiple preferences?
Yes. You can select multiple genders, character traits and other available criteria to receive broader recommendations.
Why should I complete my preferences?
Providing more information helps Astride recommend horses that better reflect your requirements.
Can I describe what I'm looking for in my own words?
Yes. At the top of the preferences you can type or dictate a description — "a careful mare for an ambitious amateur, ready for 1.20 m classes" — and Astride fills in the matching filters for you to check.
What if my requirements change?
Update your preferences to reflect your new needs. Your recommendations and matching results may change accordingly.
Can I search for horses outside my preferences?
Horses that are close to your preferences still appear in your feed, further down. To see more, widen your preferences.
Can I receive notifications when a horse matches my preferences?
Yes. Save your search preferences and enable notifications, where supported, to receive alerts about relevant new listings.
Messaging
Can I message sellers directly?
Yes. You can communicate with sellers through the app once they have said yes to your request. Getting in touch is part of Connect.
Can I message a buyer who is interested in my horse?
Yes. Sellers can respond to interested buyers and continue the conversation through the app.
Will I receive notifications for new messages?
Yes. You can receive notifications for new messages and seller responses, subject to your notification settings.
Can I share additional information through messages?
You can use the available messaging features to discuss the horse, request information and coordinate viewings or trials. You can send photos and videos in the chat, and sellers can share one of their horses directly.
Can I block another user from contacting me?
Yes. Open the chat or the person's profile, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Block.
Can I report inappropriate messages?
You can report users from the ⋯ menu in the chat or on their profile or contact Astride support.
What should I do if a user asks me to pay outside the agreed process?
Astride does not currently process horse-sale payments. Exercise caution, independently verify the other party and never send money before confirming the horse, seller and transaction details.
Safety
Are sellers verified?
Sellers who run or work at a Dealing Stable can have their connection to the stable verified by Astride. Their profile then shows a "Verified Dealing Stable" badge. Private sellers are not verified.
What does the verified badge mean?
It indicates that Astride has confirmed the seller's connection to the Dealing Stable. It does not guarantee the accuracy of every listing or the quality of a horse.
Are horse listings verified?
Some listings may include additional information or documentation, such as veterinary documents or competition history. Astride does not verify this documentation.
Does a verified seller mean the horse has been vetted?
No. Seller verification is separate from a veterinary examination. Buyers should arrange their own independent checks.
Can I upload veterinary reports, X-rays and competition records?
Yes. X-rays and vet reports are only visible to buyers you are in touch with; competition results show on the horse's profile. Buyers should independently verify the authenticity and relevance of any documents.
How do I report a suspicious listing?
Open the seller's profile or the chat, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Report.
How do I block another user?
Open the chat or the person's profile, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Block. You won't see each other's horses any more and they can't contact you again.
What happens if I suspect fraud?
Report the listing or user to Astride and provide relevant information. Avoid sending money or sensitive personal information until you have verified the other party.
What happens if I have a dispute with a seller?
Astride can review reports relating to activity on its platform and take action where appropriate. Buyers and sellers remain responsible for their transactions, subject to applicable law.
How can I protect myself when buying a horse online?
Verify the seller's identity, check the horse's identity and history, request relevant documents, arrange a viewing and obtain independent veterinary advice before purchasing.
Payments and subscriptions
Does Astride charge a commission when a horse is sold?
No. Astride does not charge commission on completed horse sales.
Does Astride handle payments for horse purchases?
No. Buyers and sellers arrange payment directly unless secure payment services are introduced in the future.
Do buyers need a subscription to use Astride?
Creating an account and browsing horses is free. A subscription is required to access the buyer features included in the selected plan.
What does a buyer subscription include?
Your subscription includes the buyer features specified in your selected plan. Check the subscription page for the current list of included features.
Do sellers have to pay to upload horses?
No. Sellers can upload and publish horse listings for free. The only seller subscription is circle access.

Are refunds available?
Refund eligibility depends on the applicable terms. Contact support if you need assistance.
Are there any hidden fees when buying a horse through Astride?
Astride does not charge commission on horse sales. Other costs may apply, including veterinary examinations, transport, insurance and any applicable taxes. Buyer subscription fees may also apply.
Does Astride inspect horses before they are listed?
Astride does not independently inspect every horse. Buyers are responsible for arranging veterinary examinations and other checks before purchasing.
What happens if I have a billing issue?
Contact Astride support with details of the charge and your subscription.
Notifications
Can I receive alerts for new horses?
Yes. Save your search preferences and enable notifications to receive alerts about relevant horses.
Can I turn notifications off?
Yes. You can manage notification preferences in Settings and your device settings.
What notifications will I receive?
Depending on your settings, you may receive notifications for new messages, replies and new connections, new horses that fit what you're looking for, price changes of horses you saved, and news from Astride.
Why am I not receiving notifications about matching horses?
Check that notifications are enabled in Astride and on your device. Confirm that your search preferences are saved and that the relevant alerts are supported. Only horses that fit your preferences trigger a notification, not every new horse.
Can I choose which notifications I receive?
You can manage the notification options available in your account settings.

Can I buy or sell horses internationally?
Yes. Astride is designed to connect buyers and sellers across different countries.
Does Astride arrange horse transport?

Can I display prices in different currencies?

Are there additional costs when buying a horse abroad?
Potential costs include transport, veterinary examinations, insurance, customs duties and applicable taxes. These depend on the countries involved and the transaction.
Does Astride manage international ownership transfers?
